TRALSUD learning partnership aims to explore and record the traditional means of addressing the issues of natural resource management, as that is expressed in the practices of elderly people, as well as in their customs, beliefs and traditions. Also, during this partnership this knowledge will be disseminated to younger people so that it is passed on to the next generation, and act as a model for future resource management, aiming at sustainable development of societies. In the course of the project, there will be recordings in text, video and audio of the "gems" of the previous generation. In addition to that, there will be a comparative research into cultures of European nations on the issue, aiming to find common ground, to rebuild the tendencies of the future, in a more eco-friendly fashion.
MOTIVATION Traditional knowledge is slowly being lost. The old "ways" carried with them a wisdom that prevented people from creating environmental problems or falling into dead-ends, regarding energy, water and food management. This knowledge is greatly reflected in the customs, beliefs, mythology, religion, and of course in everyday practises of the old people, inhabiting these rural regions that are gradually being abandoned. This project is created to help "salvage" the above-mentioned mental treasures from the wearing of time, and examining them under a new light, not as museum items but as examples of behaviour for the future. Our present social status, beliefs and attitudes have led us to a point of desperation, as major problems -environmental, financial, social - are facing us. In order to slowly descend from this dead-end, we need to re-examine our attitudes. The examples form the past are positive. Of course we cannot return to past ways, as societies are progressing. But we can -perhaps - adopt any good example and incorporate into our own everyday lives. To do that, we must first get acquainted with the above-mentioned practises. That is the reason for starting this project, to spread out knowledge to the young generation, start an inter-generational dialogue and learn form each other. OBJECTIVES The objectives of this project are as follows:
